Tampa Forges ITSMF Partnership to Address Skills and Diversity Gaps in Technology

ATLANTA, NOVEMBER 1, 2017 – Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) is partnering with the Tampa, FL market, for the first time, to host its 4th Quarter 2017 SymposiumThis event is being made possible by a collaborative effort led by ITSMF partners AC4S Technologies and Deloitte (Tampa).  Our hosts also include Tec-Link, Shutts & Bowen, Foley & Lardner, Tampa International Airport, Strategic Property Partners and Masonite International.  The events will be held November 9-11, 2017 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina.

Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation highlights Florida’s rank as third in the nation for high-tech establishments.  The Florida High Tech Corridor, anchored by the Tampa Bay region, has been named one of the top tech job hot spots in the U.S.  Though ripe with attractive tax-incentives, a healthy network of industry professionals, and a developed infrastructure, Tampa Bay business leaders and economic development organizations understand the challenges that the tech industry faces in hiring and retaining the right talent.  As such, they created a task force to identify local needs and skills gaps, and have developed relationships with the region’s educators, businesses, trade organizations, and students to address those gaps.

AC4S Technologies President and ITSMF member Hugh Campbell said, “The timing couldn’t be more perfect for an organization like ITSMF to collaborate with the Tampa tech and business community.  This national organization is actively engaging in workforce development, diversity and inclusion initiatives that shape the technology leaders of today and that are paving the way for the technology leaders of tomorrow.  As Tampa vies to be Florida’s Silicon Valley, this partnership allows for some fresh, diverse perspective that will deepen the growing connection across Tampa’s sectors and strengthen the technology pipeline.”

This two-and-a-half-day technology, leadership and diversity Symposium brings together nationally-renowned speakers, industry experts, entrepreneurial leaders and ITSMF members for a series of engaging sessions.  The event commences with a networking reception on Thursday evening, and will explore timely and relevant topics critical to one’s professional development.  Here, ITSMF fosters an environment for learning, sharing and networking with other technology executives in an atmosphere of trust, camaraderie and openness.

ITSMF has reached over 20,000 people through its industry outreach to include local communities across the country, industry professionals, college students and emerging leaders.  “Historically, ITSMF did not have representation in the Tampa market and therefore we weren’t aware of the opportunities to partner with the leadership in this area.  Today, through the connections of our current membership base in Tampa, we are diligently working together to design a mutually beneficial experience for all constituents in the Tampa region.  We are thrilled that the business community has rallied around ITSMF’s mission and vision to support hosting our 4th quarter Symposium.  We look forward to nurturing these new relationships and sharing our platform for changing the narrative around diversity and inclusion to cultivate technology leaders in Tampa and around the globe,” said Renea J. Pierre, Director of Development & Partner Engagement for ITSMF.

About Information Technology Senior Management Forum

Since 1996, Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) has been dedicated to increasing the representation of Black professionals at senior levels in technology, to impact organizational innovation and growth. We do this by developing and nurturing these dynamic leaders through enrichment of the mind, body, and soul.  At its inception, only 3% of senior-level positions in the technology industry were held by Blacks.  With 1.2M computer-related job openings expected by 2022, ITSMF is committed to increasing the number of qualified Black professionals for these positions.  For more information about ITSMF and the STEM Education Foundation, visit www.itsmfonline.org.
