ITSMF Bolsters its Role in Increasing Diversity in the Technology Industry

ATLANTA, JULY 18, 2017 – In June 2017, the Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) joined forces with more than 150 CEOs from some of the world’s leading companies to support CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. As a part of this unified pledge, ITSMF is helping industry leaders cultivate workplaces where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected; where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity and inclusion; and where promising—and unsuccessful—actions can be shared across organizations.

Through the Global Institute for Professional Development, ITSMF offers a series of content rich, developmental and career-advancing programs. In addition, it extends a safe environment to engage in complex, and sometimes difficult, conversations about diversity and inclusion. The participants, who are mid-level and senior-level professionals, are cultivated and mentored by senior-level executives who share impactful insights regarding their journey to the C-suite. Since 2003, 75% of academy graduates have received promotions or expanded job responsibilities, most within 12 months of graduating. Each of them is positioned to advocate unconscious bias initiatives and drive greater engagement within existing diversity initiatives in their respective organizations.

Strategic partnerships like CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ allow ITSMF to align its resources and executive level talent from various organizations to bridge the gap in the market around sharing and collaborating across enterprises. ITSMF’s quarterly symposiums and co-hosted partner events address diversity and inclusion, and illuminate ITSMF’s mission to increase the representation of black professionals at senior levels in technology, impacting organizational innovation and growth. This fall, ITSMF will join the other signatories for the first ever CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ Summit to assess initial progress, understand fundamental gaps, and determine the next phase of this work.

“Through a series of ongoing and new initiatives, and in collaboration with its global partners and alliances, ITSMF reaffirms its commitment to increasing diversity in leadership. The organization actively supports the belief that information technology and technology platforms connect people and ideas; nurtured leaders can transform future leaders…mind, body and soul; and diverse leadership invites new perspectives needed for innovation.”

About Information Technology Senior Management Forum

The Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF), formed in 1996, began with a conversation between a few prominent technology executives who found that only 3% percent of information technology management roles were being held by African-Americans. Studies suggested that not enough African-Americans were positioned for senior-level technology positions. This discussion sparked those executives to action as they were compelled to reach, teach and cultivate those aspiring African-American technology professionals. The 501c(3) organization was founded in Chicago, Illinois and began the work of recruiting those African-Americans who ranked among the Who’s Who in technology; as well as those companies and individuals looking to support the mission of the organization. ITSMF, celebrating its 21st year, still remains the only national organization dedicated exclusively to cultivating executive talent among African-American IT professionals.
